Don Dernovich's poetic oils and watercolors reflect his love of wildlife and the outdoors. He was born and grew up in Wyoming where his father taught him to fish and hunt and to respect the land and water. He considers his upbringing the inspiration for his art. today he lives in Nebraska.
Don earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts from the University of Wyoming, and a Masters of Fine Arts from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. He served two years in the army; and worked as an illustrator in Colorado, and a coal miner in Wyoming. He has been an art educator in Nebraska; and is an award winning artist, including first place in oil at the Phippen Museum Western Art Show, and Best Watercolor at the Western Spirits Art Show. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters; and a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, the National Watercolor Society, and the American Watercolor Society.
"If my work says something about the beauty we have on this earth, or the people who inhabit it then I feel it is successful."
To preserve that beauty, he believes in conservation, and supports organizations that help sustain land, wildlife, and fisheries.
